Welcome Message from the Conference Chair
Welcome, Bienvenue, Pjila’si!
It’s my absolute pleasure to host you here in beautiful, historic Charlottetown for the 2026 API conference. And where is it more appropriate to explore this year’s theme “Historic Foundations, Reimagining Tomorrow” than on the Island that boasts such a rich and vibrant, though tumultuous, history: from the Mi’kmaq People, who have inhabited these lands for over 12,000 years and who continue to call Epekwitk home; to the Acadians and their settlement, deportation, and resettlement on the Island; and to the Fathers of Confederation hosting the first talks for Canadian Confederation in Charlottetown.
This year’s theme asks the question “how are you managing change?”. You can expect to see presentations exploring heritage preservation, climate resiliency, inclusivity and equity, and innovations in planning practice. I’m looking forward to seeing how the presenters explore this year’s theme, and the knowledge they’ll impart on us.
I’ve truly enjoyed working with the conference committee and API to bring this event together. I hope you enjoy yourselves and take some time to explore our beautiful island!
