Join Janice Harper, RPP, MCIP, Chair of the Professional Standards Board (PSB) on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 12:30 (NL time) as she presents on Professional Ethics at a Planner’s Plate hosted by the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Professional Planners (NLAPP).
All planners benefit from staying current on ethics in planning. At this Planner’s Plate, Janice will discuss the CIP code of conduct and how it is relevant to both emerging planners as well as those who are practicing planners. Janice will explore responsibility to the public interest, as well as responsibility to clients, employees, the profession and to other planners. Planners in all roles, especially those serving as mentors, are tasked with exploring increasingly complex ethical issues.
The PSB seeks to provide support and resources in understanding the role of ethics in professional planning practice and has update resource materials to support mentors, sponsors and candidates, including a new Candidate Study Guide. Webinars on examination preparation are available as well as guides for candidates, mentors and sponsors.
Janice Harper, RPP, MCIP, is currently chair of the national Professional Standards Board for the planning professional in Canada which oversees accreditation for planning programs at universities and administering the professional exam for professional planners across Canada. She has presented at local, national and international conferences on ethics for planners, and planning issues.
Janice is a Registered Professional Planner with a wide range of experience at all levels of government, both as an employee and as a consultant, with extensive experience at the municipal and provincial levels. She was project lead to develop statements of provincial interest, which were eventually adopted as amendments to the Prince Edward Island Planning Act.
