Planner’s Plate St. John’s metropolitan area board the rise and fall of a regional idea

Stephen will share the history of the St. John’s Metropolitan Area Board, Its influence on the region and its impact on regional planning. Stephen’s planning career started in 1977 as Director of Planning and Development with the St. John’s Metropolitan Area Board where he served until 1989.
In-person on Monday March 13, 2023 starting at noon at the Mount Pearl Soccer Hut, 44 Arena Road, off Smallwood Drive.

STEPHEN B. JEWCZYK, B.A.A., FCIP
A 1976 Ryerson Urban and Regional Planning Graduate, Stephen’s planning career has been in Newfoundland and Labrador since 1977 as Director of Planning and Development with the St. John’s Metropolitan Area Board until 1989 and then as Director of Planning and Development with the City of Mount Pearl until his “retirement” in 2017. He then worked as Town Planner with the Town of Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove from November 2017 until June 2021. He is currently providing planning and development services in the St. John’s area through his consulting firm Jewczyk Consulting to both municipal governments and the private sector.
A member of CIP since 1974 and Fellow since 2005, Stephen served as President of the Atlantic Planners Institute, the Canadian Institute of Planners, the CIP Planning Student Scholarship Trust Fund Board and as a member of the CIP Fellows and Honours Jury. He has Chaired the Healthy Communities Network and was Canadian CIP coordinator of the Canadian/China Internship Planning Experience Program.
