Reporting to the Director of Local Governance and Land Use Planning, this position is accountable for the management of professional planning in urban development/redevelopment, development control, municipal and regional planning studies and land use management planning. This position is also responsible for managing the operations of the Appeal Process. This position supervises the operation of the Planning Unit including the Appeal Officer; manages and reports on all planning activities of the Division including municipal plan reviews and amendments; assist the Director in management of the Division by advising staff on interpretation of legislation and regulations; answers queries from the public, municipal councils, and other departments and organizations on various aspects of the Division’s work and the application of planning legislation; and prioritizes work of the land use planning section. This position assists the Director by preparing documents, including briefing notes, presentations, cabinet submissions and other reports based on sound planning principles for consideration. This position represents the Department on various inter departmental committees.
Screening Criteria
- Completion of degree in Land Use Planning {equivalencies may be considered)
- Registered Member in the Canadian Institute of Planners {MCIP) {asset)
- Experience supervising and leading staff
- Extensive experience in urban and rural planning
- Experience in policy development and analysis (asset)
- Experience in land use planning in Newfoundland and Labrador (asset)
